Alkmaar is a lovely city situated north-west from Amsterdam. You can go there for the Cheese Market, on Fridays, or you can go only to visit the city and do some shopping. It’s easy to reach, around 30-40 minutes by train from Amsterdam.

This cosy city is very charming, it’s a pleasure to wander on the narrow streets, to admire the old buildings and bridges, to visit the unique boutiques or the cheese shops where you can sample many cheese assortments. If you’re in the mood to see some museums, there are a few to choose from: The Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, a Beer Museum or — why not? — The Beatles Museum! Otherwsie, just walk around and enjoy the city!
