When the temperature reaches above 25 degrees Celsius, it’s Easter Holiday and they feel the need to inhale some salty sea air (or maybe get an early spring tan) every Amsterdamian thinks of Zandvoort. There are of course other sea resorts, but this one is closest to the city — it takes less than half an hour to get there by train. I decided to go there on the Saturday before Easter, and the place was positively packed. People were taking in the sun, playing games, building sandcastles and the bold ones even bathing in the cold sea.

The beach is long, wide and bordered by sand dunes. Towards the south there is a nude beach, while to the north lies another resort, Bloemendaal, well known for it’s hip beach clubs. There is also a large auto racing circuit on the dunes for high-octane lovers.

I spent my whole day on the beach in Zandvoort, and I must say I found it a pleasant surprise to be able to do such a thing in the Netherlands, in April, considering the well known climate…
