As the most visited museum in the Netherlands in 2012, the Van Gogh Museum is one museum in Amsterdam that nobody wants to miss. This isn’t surprising, considering that Vincent van Gogh is now one of the most popular painters in the world.

The museum is in the Museumplein area of Amsterdam, next to Rijkmuseum and Stedelijk Museum, and is very easy to reach by public transport or even walking from the city centre. Once you get there, you will be rewarded with the largest collection of van Gogh paintings in the world. Even though some of the most famous pieces may be missing from the collection (like “Starry night”, which can be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City), there are still more than 200 paintings, 500 drawings and 700 letters to be seen in Amsterdam, plus some of his contemporaries art work.

My favourite museum in Amsterdam

Being a fan of van Gogh’s art, this is one of my favourite museums in Amsterdam. I also like the museum’s modern approach, the fact that they often organise workshops for adults and children, and every Friday there is music, dance, food, and drinks in the lounge area until ten o’clock in the evening. I recommend visiting the museum on a Friday at the end of the day, if you get the chance, then you can also enjoy the extra activities (most of them are included in the ticket’s price).

For more info about visiting hours and price check their website, and for a sneak peak in the museum, check out these pictures:
