Abandoned boats

The canals of Amsterdam are all lined with boats. They say it’s easier and cheaper to own a boat than a car in this city — although I haven’t yet seen anyone going to their office by boat. During winter the boats stay parked and, if the owner is a responsible one, covered to be safe from the cold weather. When spring comes the boats are taken out for rides along the canals, picnics and parties.
From all the many boats, I’ve chosen to first show a few interesting, derelict examples and wait to take pictures of the pretty ones after they get all tidied up for Queen’s Day. Some of these boats might be restored this spring, others have no chance of survival, but they all present sad, romantic images of how a boat’s life may end.
