Prinseneiland is a nice small street, well hidden on the island with the same name. I discovered it by chance, when I went to this quiet, almost tourist-free area to take pictures of the interesting boats that can be found there. I was pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful houses with red (and sometimes black) shutters covering all windows and doors.

Now picturesque and very expensive homes, in the past these were all warehouses, used for storing the goods that came from Amsterdam’s port. Afterwards they were abandoned until the second half of the 20th century when they were turned into apartments. Nowadays, the area attracts many artists and it has a lot to offer visitors.
