Welcome to Amsterdamian — a digital magazine with a personal touch.
I’m Dana Marin, a photographer and writer based in the Netherlands. Originally from Romania, I’ve called this country home for over a decade.
Amsterdamian started in 2011 as a place where I could share daily discoveries in my new city/country. Over the years, it has grown into a layered digital magazine, a space where lifestyle, culture, and personal reflection meet. Here, you’ll find a blend of travel pieces, urban explorations, cultural recommendations, nature walks, stories and interviews, photo essays, creative musings, and more.
I tell stories through words and images, driven by a deep curiosity about the world and a love for capturing life as it unfolds. I love documenting life and people; I’m passionate about storytelling, fascinated by people, and always eager to discover what lies beneath the surface.
What sets Amsterdamian apart is its distinctive voice: sensitive, timeless, and authentic. I aim to inspire and inform, to offer both a practical guide and a poetic lens on the places and people I encounter.
Since 2022, I’ve also expanded the blog into video storytelling. You can explore this visual journey further on my YouTube Channel. In 2025, I became a member of the Foreign Press Association in the Netherlands.
In 2021 I launched my first photo book, Amsterdam Through the Seasons, a soul project that I’m very fond of. This is a photo book (with a bit of text) that will take you on a walk through the streets of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and show you the beauty of this city in each season, as seen through my lens.
You can order the book on Blurb: Amsterdam Through the Seasons or contact me to request a signed copy.

Some of the blog’s highlights:
The project ”Discover the Netherlands, Province by Province”, started in 2022. Until now, I visited and talked about seven Dutch provinces (find the updated Dutch Provinces Guide here). It’s a work in progress.
