Rose season is here, the warm days as well, and the city buzzes with the joy of summer approaching. A mix of sunny days and pouring rain, Amsterdam summer is upon us, and the events are varied enough to have something to do regardless of the weather. If you are not away on holiday, or if you are in Amsterdam for holiday this June, you can choose from a multitude of events and experience the cultural life of this amazing city. From outdoor cinema to museum exhibitions, from indoor and outdoor markets to flamenco shows, there’s something to do in Amsterdam for everyone!

Flamenco Gala at Podium Mozaïek, on 9 June. An evenin filled with music and dance and more than 70 talents!

Pure Markt, on 9 June in Amstelpark. A beautiful market filled with joy and fresh produce, handmade items and more!

Architecture Day, on 15 June in various locations in the city. On this day you can explore interesting architecture with a special guide. Check out the ARCAM website for details.

The Great Play, Swap, and Recycle Festival. On 15-16 June at De Hallen. Bring old children’s toys and clothes to swap (up to 5 items of each) and give them a second life.

Open Garden Days, one of my favourite events in the summer, on 14-16 June. Three days to discover the hidden gardens of Amsterdam, hidden behind the canal houses facades.

Amsterdam Roots Festival on 23 June in Oosterpark. A celebration of culture, creativity and connection, with music, dance, theatre and artists from around the world.

Popup Gallery – on 29 June in Diemen. A creative market that is pet friendly!

Things that Matter – exhibition at the Wereldmuseum, until 31 December. About the important things and the importance of things: objects carrying a huge personal significance are simultaneously interwoven with the social issues of today, like migration and heritage.

The Maker Market, 29 June at De Hallen Amsterdam. Meet your favourite makers from Amsterdam at this market where you can find everything from handmade jewellery and clothing to beautiful prints and organic delicacies. Live music and cool workshops are also on the agenda. Free entrance.

 

Labyrinth of memories, exhibition at Singer Laren Museum, until 25 August. Visual artist Levi van Veluw takes over the museum, rearranging some items from the museum to fit in his installations. Looks like a very cool thing to experience!

Déjà vu. Discover the changing city through the lens of Erik Klein Wolterink, at the Amsterdam City Archive. Until 29 September. The photographer catures the changes in the city by re-capturing a place in an archive photo.

Holland Festival. Celebrate the 77th edition of this performance arts festival throughouth the entire month of June. Check out the festival’s website to see the agenda and pick the ones that appeal to you. There’s theatre, music, opera, film and visual arts. Too many cool events to mention them all here on this list.

Films with a View at Pllek. The open-air cinema nights start at Pllek. Let’s pray for good weather!
