Great cocktail bar in Amsterdam West: Kevin Bacon Bar
« Previous: A sunny Liberation Day | Next: Bucharest in Spring »
My friend and I recently tried out this lovely place in Amsterdam West: a cocktail bar named Kevin Bacon. Strange name for a bar, right? We had fun tagging ourselves as having cocktails with Kevin Bacon on FB, making our friends envious!
Entering the bar you wouldn’t realise, but this is actually a hotel bar. The Hotel Not Hotel transformed its living room in a cosy space where locals and tourists all gather together. They serve cocktails and other drinks, and recently they opened a Thai kitchen, which is perfect to satisfy your hunger and help you not get too drunk from the strong drinks! I think the Thai cuisine-cocktails combination is very rewarding (Thai food is not heavy and it’s quite fancy looking, to go well with fancy drinks).
The hotel is really special, built in a former passage between 2 streets, with an impressive design. Each room is different — there’s a room hidden behind a bookcase, a room in a tram, one as a Spanish hacienda and so on. I haven’t tried out any of the rooms, but I did try the drinks and the food. We had Bitter Rose and Lemongrass Martini as starters. Then we tried the Watermelon Martini, but only in small shot glasses — to compare it with the other martini. Already a bit tipsy after that, we were very happy to see the food arrive 😀 Spicy and very tasty, the vegetarian green curry was great, as was the pad bai kraprauw with prawn, both were delicious. To go with it, we had another cocktail of course: the Bloody Rum this time, it paired very well with the food.
We had a great time and I definitely want to go back, especially now with this nice weather, to try out the terrace. Friday cocktails on the terrace sounds very appealing, right? I would recommend the place for a night out with friends but also for a date (the setting is romantic: roses on the tables, chic design, dimmed lights). Even if by the end of the evening the place was packed, we didn’t find it too noisy. We could still have a proper conversation without yelling at each other, unfortunately like too many places lately.
See you there for cocktails! Until then, here are some photos from our evening:
