Visiting Keukenhof — part 4, the orchids
The Orchid family is the second largest group of flowering plants (after the daisies, go figure!), with more than 20,000 known species around the Earth. However, novel species keep turning up all the time, so they might end on top after all. What is certain though is they combine a delicate, sensual beauty with tremendous variety, while being easy to grow and quite sturdy — they live everywhere from the tropics to the Arctic Circle.
In Keukenhof, orchids have their own special exhibition in the Beatrix Pavilion, where they delight onlookers next to anthuriums and bromeliads; a few of them can be admired below.
