This post is about a lovely evening I spent with my friend who is living on a houseboat for a short while. Knowing my passion for houseboats, she invited me over and I couldn’t help taking some pictures, because I really liked the house.

With a woody interior and beach inspired decorations, the house is very cosy and welcoming. The location is quiet and beautiful, and they even have a porch! What more could you wish for? It’s lovely to drink tea, relaxing on the couch, watching the boats passing by. It was also nice to notice, while having dinner, that the house sways slightly from time to time.

I could have stayed there for hours, but I had to go home at some point. After closing the little porch door behind me, I watched the evening lights reflecting onto the canal water and I heard the water rippling. I promised myself to live at least a couple of days on a houseboat, at some point.

  1. This is just lovely! I live in Amsterdam and still have not been on a houseboat. I do wonder if I would be able to feel the movement or not but I need to get on one to see!

    • You can feel the movement more on a windy day or if there are many boats passing by and creating waves. But I hope you’ll get to see/feel that by yourself, it’s a lovely experience.
