Yellow Amsterdam

It’s a beautiful autumn and Amsterdam is yellow again. Winter might be approaching quickly, but the city still has one last show to perform for  this season: the colours change every day, street by street and tree by tree. Don’t miss it, it would be a shame — soon everything will be grey! Amsterdamian beauty

…a small scale; the bicycles, coming in all shapes and sizes; the romantic canals and bridges; a swan dancing on the water at sunset… or the incredible light enveloping them all. Perhaps it’s the unique entrances with their ubiquitous bicycles and flower pots in front, the mirror-like windows and the cats; the bricks; the clouds; the people; but most of all the unique feeling that Amsterdam gives you. A sunny November afternoon

The weather was incredible yesterday (it was the warmest 1st of November, since formal records began in 1901, according to the weather bureaus), and not a single person in this city missed the chance to go out and enjoy the sun! I took some pictures to keep me warm for the rest of the month: Stay tuned for more and follow Amsterdamian on Instagram and Facebook for more stories about life in the Netherlands, written by a real local, updated consta…

Friends and a record step count

Last Sunday my recently installed health app announced me that I have a new record to celebrate: over 14.000 steps! Yes, I’m not obsessed with Pokemons, I am more interested in an app that gives you badges for how many steps you walked in a day (and Ingress, of course!) 🙂 It’s not hard to break this kind of records when you live in a beautiful city like Amsterdam. Elena was here for a few days and we went for a walk on Sunday, no particular desti…

City bike tour in Amsterdam

I cycle all over Amsterdam almost every day, come rain or shine, on my pinkish-purple, basket-fitted bike. I go by bike to work, to meet people, or shopping. Basically anywhere I need to go. But I’ve never been on an organised bike tour until now. When the guys from We Bike Amsterdam invited me to go for a city tour with them, I thought it wasn’t actually a bad idea! I like to imagine I am a tourist from time to time and see the city from a diffe…

Amsterdam is not Venice of the North

…re not “small” or “big” versions of Venice. There are no gondolas on their canals, or, if there are, they are probably the most kitsch things that you will see (or they were forcedly introduced by someone that feels the need to compare the city with Venice in the hope that they’ll get more money). I have heard tourists complaining about the fact that, “Amsterdam is not Venice, not by far!” Well, if you want to see Venice, you should go to Venice,…

Early morning in Amsterdam
